Privacy & Cookies Policy
How this website handles data and cookies: what we collect, the analytics and consent we use, affiliate links, and your rights under UK data protection law.
Last updated 23 May 2026 · How we research
This website is a free, independent educational resource about Stephen Hawking. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible, and to be clear about what we do collect. This policy explains it.
Who we are
This site is operated as an independent educational and charitable project. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights below, please use the contact details on the site.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the site, which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, and so on. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to do this.
We operate Google Analytics through Google Consent Mode, and analytics cookies are set to denied by default. When you first visit, you will see a cookie notice. No analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected until you choose "Accept." If you choose "Decline," analytics stays switched off. You can clear your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, after which the notice will appear again.
The information Google Analytics collects is statistical and is not used by us to identify you personally. Google processes this data as described in its own privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Some links to books on this site are Amazon affiliate links. If you follow one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, which contributes to the donation we make to motor neurone disease research. When you click such a link you are taken to Amazon, and Amazon's own privacy policy and cookies then apply. We do not receive your personal purchase details.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like most web hosts, Vercel may process limited technical information (such as IP addresses in server logs) as a necessary part of delivering the site securely.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising networks. We do not ask you to create an account or to provide personal information to read the site.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, please get in touch.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site develops. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
